Andrew Gillum has been taken back into custody after prosecutors stated that he missed a scheduled drug test and subsequently tested positive for methamphetamine. According to Baldwin County Assistant District Attorney John Oxford, Gillum was participating in a court-mandated random drug testing system known as “color code drug testing,” which requires participants to call a daily hotline to find out if they must report for testing.
Oxford explained that Gillum failed to show up when his assigned color was called, prompting a court-ordered drug test during his Thursday appearance that returned a positive result.
This development follows Gillum’s arrest last month for drug possession, during which law enforcement reportedly recovered three grams of methamphetamine, eight pre-rolled marijuana joints, four cut straws, three pipes, and a bong. Although he initially passed a drug test shortly after that arrest—leading to speculation that he might enter a pre-trial drug intervention program—it remains unclear how this latest violation will impact his eligibility.
This marks another difficult chapter for Gillum, who served as the mayor of Tallahassee from 2014 to 2018 and narrowly lost the 2018 gubernatorial race to Republican Ron DeSantis. Representatives for Gillum have not yet responded to requests for comment.
