Enjoy the Silence is a 1990 single by Depeche Mode from their album Violator, written by Martin Gore and featuring lead vocals by Dave Gahan.  The track is notable for its transformation from a slow, minimal ballad into an upbeat synth-pop anthem, a change driven by keyboardist Alan Wilder and producer Flood to better suit the album’s dynamic sound.

[Verse 1]
Words like violence break the silence
Come crashing in into my little world
Painful to me, pierce right through me
Can’t you understand? Oh, my little girl

[Chorus]
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

[Instrumental Break]

[Verse 2]
Vows are spoken to be broken
Feelings are intense, words are trivial
Pleasures remain, so does the pain
Words are meaningless and forgettable

[Chorus]
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

[Instrumental Break]

[Chorus]
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

[Instrumental Break]

[Outro]
Enjoy the silence
