A recent study by the Billy Graham Center Research Institute reveals that nearly half (48%) of Gen Z Americans cite Christians’ support for President Donald Trump as a reason they are less likely to attend church. The research, which surveyed 2,365 adults ages 18 to 28 through NORC’s AmeriSpeak panel, highlights political partisanship alongside other social media and moral factors as key demotivators for young adults. Lead researcher Rick Richardson noted that while Gen Z’s overall spiritual interest remains high and openness to traditional denominations shows some positive trends, addressing trust and political alienation head-on is vital for churches seeking to reengage this demographic. Furthermore, religious leaders like National Association of Evangelicals President Walter Kim have pointed out that broader political policies, such as mass deportation efforts, are creating a climate of fear that disrupts immigrant and multiethnic congregations, ultimately reshaping the landscape of American Christianity.
