Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.

Ahead of the United States’ 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., has launched “The Bible & America 250,” a special initiative exploring the Bible’s influence on American history. Running through March 2027, the programming features a hybrid lecture series spanning from June to December, with free talks by renowned scholars from institutions such as Princeton, Harvard, and Baylor exploring themes like the spiritual framing of independence and the biblical rhetoric of revolution. Opening July 3, two new exhibits—including “Sacred Liberty”—will showcase rare items and never-before-displayed artifacts from private and museum collections, highlighting how individuals on both sides of the American Revolution used scripture to justify their causes and humanizing historical figures through their personal struggles and faith. Additionally, the museum’s World Stage Theater hosted a 70-minute live theatrical production titled “A General’s Prayer” from June 12 to July 19, starring actor James Denton as George Washington in a one-man performance focusing on the general’s private doubts, resolve, and reliance on God during the Revolutionary War.
