A four-alarm fire engulfs the historic 19th century sanctuary of First Baptist Dallas in Dallas, Texas, on July 19, 2024.

David Green, the founder and CEO of Hobby Lobby, has made a generous donation of $7 million to aid in the reconstruction of the historic sanctuary at First Baptist Dallas. The announcement of this substantial gift took place during a Sunday morning worship service attended by congregants at the prominent downtown Dallas church, where Senior Pastor Robert Jeffress offered words of gratitude for Green’s support. The donation arrives almost 18 months after a devastating four-alarm fire broke out in July 2024, leaving the 134-year-old sanctuary heavily damaged and the congregation facing the daunting task of rebuilding both their worship space and their ministries.

Green’s contribution is not only a testament to his personal commitment to faith-based causes, but also serves as a pivotal milestone in First Baptist Dallas’s ongoing campaign to raise a total of $95 million. This ambitious fundraising effort will finance the construction of a new sanctuary and support the expansion of the church’s ministries, which serve thousands in the Dallas area and beyond. Church leaders have emphasized that the rebuilt facility will honor the congregation’s rich history while incorporating modern amenities to serve future generations. Green’s donation has inspired renewed enthusiasm among members and supporters, bringing the church significantly closer to achieving its fundraising goal and revitalizing its mission in the heart of Dallas.
