Camel Incident Disrupts Church Christmas Production

The annual “Christmas Spectacular” produced by the multi-campus Champion Forest Baptist Church in Texas took a troubling turn earlier this month when a female attendee was apparently kicked in the face by a camel during the live production.

The woman was seated in an aisle pew inside the sanctuary, watching a procession of performers, when the incident occurred.

Video Captures the Moment

A video shared on Facebook by Grizzy’s Hood News shows the camel being led down a narrow aisle by a performer before suddenly kicking the woman. The footage shows her slumping sideways in the pew as nearby attendees rushed to assist her.

Victim Treated and Released

According to an update from Grizzy’s Hood News, the woman was transported to a local hospital and treated for undisclosed injuries. She has since been released and is continuing her recovery.

About the “Christmas Spectacular”

The church’s website describes the “Christmas Spectacular” as:

“A 90-minute, family-friendly show celebrating the birth of Jesus and the joy of the holiday season.”

The production features Broadway-scale music, choreographed dance performances, elaborate lighting, and special effects designed to appeal to audiences of all ages. The event ran from Dec. 9 through Dec. 14.

Founded September 20, 1970 by Reverend Robin Guess, the new worship center was completed in 1983. 54 acres of land was purchased in 1991. In 2000 , Phase 3 began on a new worship center, soon after $40 million dollars allocated for another expansion. In 2020, current pastor Jarrett Stephens is selected with a 98% vote.

Church Response

Champion Forest Baptist Church did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Christian Post. However, church communications director Steven Miori addressed the incident in a statement to NBC News, calling it “unexpected.”

“Champion Forest regrets that this happened,” Miori said. “Our team responded immediately, and emergency services were engaged.”

Miori also stated that the church has remained in contact with the woman’s family and has since discontinued the practice of walking animals through audience seating areas.

Medical Risks of Camel Kicks

Although the woman’s exact injuries have not been disclosed, medical research indicates that camel kicks pose a serious danger. A study published by the National Library of Medicine identifies camel kicks as the leading cause of camel-related injuries to humans, noting that the force of a kick can result in severe injury or death.

“Patients with kick-related injuries had a significantly higher rate of maxillofacial fractures compared with other mechanisms,” the study states.

A 2022 research review titled The Nature and Consequences of Camel-Related Injuries: A Scoping Review With Special Reference to Arab Middle Eastern Countries further notes that attacks involving kicks are more common during breeding season, when male camels tend to become more aggressive and violent.

Public and Media Reaction

The incident sparked widespread attention online, with the video circulating on social media and drawing reactions on platforms like Reddit, where users commented on the dangers of using live animals in performances. Some described it as “the most real thing” they’d seen at church, while others criticized the spectacle as excessive. The event, described as Houston’s biggest Christmas show, features Broadway-scale production elements, including aerial performers and live animals, drawing around 30,000 attendees annually.
