Dolph Lundgren delivered a TEDx talk titled “On Healing and Forgiveness” at TEDx Fulbright Santa Monica, where he shared his personal journey of overcoming childhood abuse and trauma. The core message of the talk is that “if you heal yourself you can heal others,” emphasizing that self-compassion is a prerequisite for helping those in pain.
Lundgren recounts growing up in Sweden with a father who abused him, leading to a “freeze” response and subsequent destructive behaviors like substance abuse and violence throughout his early career. He explains that it was only after 30 years of fame, including his role as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, that he sought therapy and meditation to address his unresolved trauma.
Through this process, Lundgren reconciled with his children and ex-wife, forgave his parents, and channeled his experience into activism. He co-produced the film Skin Trade to raise awareness about human trafficking, noting that the victims’ lack of self-worth mirrored his own past struggles, thereby turning his personal “fight worth fighting” into a broader social mission.
