Below, please find my setup for my Daily Office reading plan. Throughout the years, I have used the 1928, the 1662 and even tried the 1979. I lament the 1979 similarly to the way parish’s across the united states did. There are just too many options and two separate rites! For Several years I have been using the 2019 BCP published by Anglican House and I enjoy it very much.
Here are some resources that I consult where preparing for my morning and evening prayers:
- https://www.dailyoffice2019.com/ – a “read along” Morning, Midday, Evening and Compline office with audio that tracks with the text.
- https://liturgical-calendar.com/en/ACNA2019/ – A Liturgical Calendar that supplies all the commemorations, readings, lectionaries. You can easily change the BCP to see what is scheduled for other publications.
- https://forallsaints.wordpress.com/ – An excellent site that dives deep into the commemoration of Saints.
- https://dailyofficeforall.com/ – Another 2019 BCP daily prayer without audio readings.
Below find pics of pages from my 2019 Book of Common Prayer. For those that are interested, I have the calfskin leather edition, published by Anglican House. I was forced to replace my original thinline because it fell apart so quickly from heavy use. In edition, I also have the Saint Bernard Breviary and hope to publish a similar article about it’s setup in the near future.
Here is the marking scheme that I use in almost all my prayer books
- I highlight in yellow and underline the relevant rubric which makes finding it easier and faster.
- I draw a box and number each section that I am going to read, again to enable me to quickly find it. I use a drafting template to make the squares and highlight with a highlighter that I like (also happens to be erasable – yes it is a thing).
- I place ribbons in the relevant sections (noted in a pic below)
- I draw a box and place an X inside to indicate that is a section that is always read by an officiant in a group.
- I number the opening sentences and other lists of scripture and divided up by days (see the yellow post-it note to indicate which days are assigned to a number. See the opening sentences p11, antiphons p14, prayers p24, concluding sentences p26
- I Highlight in green the section where the Glory Be is prayed.
- On page I insert a 3×5 card that lists my intercessions (not pictured), that way I can change them out often.
- I print and place in the relevant sections booklets and inserts to change up the prayers and add additional ones from previous prayer books. My list of booklets can be found here.
