Windows 11

After just three months of testing, Microsoft has declared Windows 11 fit for public consumption on new PCs and on a select group of Windows 10 PCs that are ready for the upgrade. On October 5 the upgrade should start rolling out to pc’s in North America.

Is Microsoft using the same, phased rollout approach with Windows 11 that it has been using for Windows 10? Yes. Machines that Microsoft believes will have a good experience running Windows 11 (based on its own telemetry, testing and self-hosting) will be offered Windows 11 first. Microsoft is saying that it expects it will have offered to all eligible Windows 10 devices the option to get Windows 11 by the middle of 2022.

“Our launch approach to Windows 11 leverages the well-established systems and processes used for the 1.3 billion Windows 10 devices we have shipped and serviced for over five years,” Microsoft’s John Cable explains. “We will use a measured and phased process in offering Windows 11 as we have done with Windows 10 feature updates. Our objective is to provide you with a smooth upgrade experience.”

In addition to the handful of new Windows 11-based PCs that are now being sold to consumers at retail, Microsoft will also offer Windows 11 as an upgrade on eligible newer PCs running Windows 10. Then, as in the past, it will evaluate the reliability of the upgrade and increase the number of PCs that can receive it. “Device health data and other signals” will determine the pace at which Windows 11 is offered as an upgrade, Cable says.

Today also marks the start of Windows 11’s new two-year support lifecycle for the Home and Pro editions of the product.

How long will businesses and consumers be able to continue to license/buy/upgrade to Windows 10? Support for Windows 10 will continue through October 14, 2025, and users will be able to license/buy/install Windows 10 up until that time, according to Microsoft. Microsoft officials are not saying at this time if they’ll make Extended Support Updates available for Windows 10 so users can keep getting security updates for it beyond October 14, 2025.

Markeith Loyd’s murder trial begins today

Jury selection to be made in shooting death of Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton

More than four years after authorities say Markeith Loyd shot and killed Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton and was captured following a massive manhunt, his first-degree murder trial in her killing will start today with jury selection.

It will be the second time that Loyd, 45, faces the possibility of being sentenced to death. He was convicted of first-degree murder in 2019 for killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend Sade Dixon and her unborn child, but he avoided capital punishment after jurors recommended he be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Prosecutors say Loyd gunned down Clayton Jan. 9, 2017, at a Walmart on Princeton Street after she tried to arrest him for killing Dixon in December 2016

Rapper Pitbull says ‘f— you’ to critics of America, tells them to go to Cuba

Rap star Pitbull celebrated patriotism during a concert, and slammed critics of the United States for not appreciating the country.

“To whoever the f— doesn’t like the United States of America, may God bless you, but f— you at the same time,” the rap star, who is first generation Cuban-American, said on a concert stage in a video making the rounds on social media.

“If you don’t like the United States of America, go back to the countries that we the f— from, and you’ll see how much you appreciate the United States of America,” Pitbull, born Armando Christian Pérez, continued.

It is unclear when the concert was held, but was posted to Twitter last week and follows similar instances of the rapper declaring his love and appreciation for the U.S.

His mother came to the country from Cuba through Operation Peter Pan, which ran from 1960-1962, while his father made it to the U.S. through a visa lottery. Pitbull has credited his family’s immigration to the U.S. from communist Cuba for his work ethic and success.

“They knew what this country had to offer is that you could control your own destiny,” he said in 2015 of his family. “You had opportunity. And you had the number one thing which was and which is freedom.”

Patriotism has come under fire in the U.S. in recent months. The perception of the American flag as a divisive symbol has spread into mainstream culture, while various videos on college campuses show students struggling to say whether they are “proud” to be American and even saying the U.S. Constitution should be abolished.

National Cathedral Tolls for Covid Deaths

As our nation marks 600,000 lives lost to the COVID-19 pandemic, Washington National Cathedral will toll its mourning bell 600 times — once for every 1,000 dead — on Thursday (June 10) starting at 5 pm ET.

They toll the 12-ton bell for every funeral held at the Cathedral. Funerals mourn the loss, but they also celebrate the lives of our loved ones, and point us to the hope of resurrection.

As posted on their youtube channel…. “This gesture cannot replace the lives lost, but we hope it will help each American mourn the toll of this pandemic.”

The filthy rich keep getting richer

Bill Gates Promised to Give Away His Wealth. Well, That Was a Complete Lie.

A decade ago, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett launched the Giving Pledge, which they explain as “a commitment by the world’s wealthiest individuals and families to dedicate the majority of their wealth to giving back.”

According to the official website, some 210 billionaires and mega-millionaires have made the so-called pledge. Unfortunately, many of those billionaires are giving to fake charities that enrich themselves and all of them have helped structure the economy so that they accumulate wealth faster than they can possible give it away.

Bill Gates is a case in point. When he made the pledge in 2010, his net worth was $53 billion. Ten years later, his net worth is $115 billion. Bill Gates is 64 years old, so at this rate, he’ll be worth $250 billion or more by the time he’s supposed to have given away at least half his wealth.

Same thing with Warren Buffett, only much worse. In 2010, his net worth was $39 billion; today, his net worth is $82 billion. Buffett is 90 years old, so if he’s planning on giving away at least half his wealth, he’d damn better well get crackin’!

Jack and Frank: A Friendship for the ages

The year was 1947. Frank Sinatra (1915-1998) was sitting in a smoky New York City bar, just about to order a drink. It was at this point that his company for the evening, entertainer Jackie Gleason, made a drink suggestion that Frank would not soon forget: “Jack Daniel’s. That’s a good place to start.”

In 2013, Jack Daniel’s sold more than 11 million cases of the company’s iconic Black Label Tennessee Whiskey bottle. According to the company’s historian, Nelson Eddy, that would never have been possible if not for Frank Sinatra.

“Frank’s introduced to Jack Daniel’s in around 1947, we’re a brand that’s under 200,000 cases per year at that point, very small brand,” Eddy says. “And the only reason Sinatra finds out about it, he’s at a bar with Jackie Gleason. Gleason turns to him and says, ‘Have you tried Jack Daniel’s?’ He tries it that night, he falls in love with it, he feels like he’s discovered it and given the number of cases that were out there, in a way, he did discover it for many, many people. He starts calling it, from the stage, the nectar of the gods and the best booze in the world.”

Few could’ve predicted the lifelong friendship between Frank & Jack that would follow. Frank was no stranger to love and loss, but when it came to Old No. 7, his affection was unflinching. Wherever Frank went, Jack was nearby. At the base of his mic stand on-stage. Aboard his private jet. Front row at award ceremonies. Even in his jacket pocket when he was laid to rest.
