Coquito is a favorite from Puerto Rico. This eggnog-like drink, prepared with coconut milk, is traditionally served on Nochebuena (Christmas Eve). It’s easy and quick to make, wonderfully creamy, and perfectly festive. On this day, families get together for a big home gathering with lots of food, drinks, music, dancing, and overall fun. This is one delicious sip with its creamy texture, warming flavors from the spices, and delicate coconut flavor.
What is Coquito
Coquito is a Puerto Rican eggnog-like drink prepared with coconut milk that is traditionally served on Nochebuena. There are many variations to this drink, but the base ingredients are always the same: Coconut milk, coconut cream, sweetened condensed milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and Caribbean Rum.
For this recipe, use evaporated milk, sweet condensed milk, coconut milk, coconut cream, and Captain Morgan’s spiced rum. For the spices, Use cinnamon and nutmeg and added a little vanilla extract for some extra flavor.

Coquito – Authentic Puerto Rican Coconut Nog
Ingredients
- 12 oz Carnation Evaporated Milk
- 13.66 oz Thai Kitchen Coconut Milk
- 15 oz Coco Lopez Cream of Coconut
- 14 oz Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1 cup Puerto Rican Rum Don Q
- 1 shot Spiced Rum Captain Morgan’s
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/8 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp Nutmeg
Instructions
- Let chill overnight before serving.
- For coffee creamer, 3 TB in a 12oz cup of coffee
Notes
- Coquito will last in an airtight container refrigerated for 4-6 months.
- If some of the coconut fat solidifies let it sit on the counter for 10 minutes and give it a good shake before serving.
- To make a non-alcoholic version substitute coconut milk for the rum and add rum extractto taste.
