Crispy Cajun Shrimp Fritters with Spicy Remoulade
Golden, crispy, and packed with bold Louisiana flavors—these Cajun shrimp fritters are pure comfort food! And that spicy remoulade? You’ll be dipping everything in it!

INGREDIENTS:
½ lb fresh shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped into bite-sized pieces
1 cup all-purpose flour, light and airy for crispier fritters
½ cup cornmeal, for that perfect crunch
1 teaspoon baking powder, to keep them light and fluffy
½ teaspoon smoked paprika, for a deep, smoky kick
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper, for a little Louisiana heat
½ teaspoon garlic powder, because garlic makes everything better
½ teaspoon salt, to bring out all the flavors
1 green onion, finely chopped for a pop of freshness
½ cup buttermilk, for tender, flavorful fritters
1 egg, beaten to hold everything together
1 tablespoon hot sauce, because why not?
Vegetable oil, for frying to golden perfection
For the Spicy Remoulade:
½ cup mayonnaise, creamy and rich
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, for a little tang
1 teaspoon horseradish, for a sneaky bit of heat
1 teaspoon hot sauce, or more if you’re feeling bold
1 teaspoon smoked paprika, to tie it all together
1 clove garlic, finely minced for an extra punch
1 teaspoon lemon juice, for brightness
INSTRUCTIONS:
❶ In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, smoked paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, and salt. This is where all that flavor starts!
❷ Stir in the chopped shrimp and green onions, making sure they’re evenly coated in the dry mix.
❸ In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce. Slowly pour this into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The batter should be thick but not dry—add a splash more buttermilk if needed.
❹ Heat about ½ inch of vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the pan, being careful not to overcrowd.
❺ Fry for 2–3 minutes per side, or until the fritters are deep golden brown and irresistibly crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
❻ While the fritters are cooling slightly, mix all the remoulade ingredients in a small bowl. Give it a taste—adjust the heat if you dare!
❼ Serve the fritters hot with a generous dollop of spicy remoulade. Warning: They’ll disappear fast!
